Drewboy and the Sax Addicts

Next Saturday, November 19, we’ll be jamming at The Jack in Cairns with Drewboy and the Sax Addicts!  It’s going to be an awesome night with doors opening at 7pm, so thought we’d go behind the scenes with Drewboy and the Sax Addicts to get you as keen as we are!

You only recently came together as a band, didn’t you?

Yeah, we came together after meeting through mutual friends by pure fate earlier this year. As soon as we played together, we knew it was something special and worth nurturing, which contributed in bringing our unique sound to life which features on the latest album Growing Down. We each have our own unique style & influences combining everything from folk, roots, rock, punk, hip hop, and a little bit of country too!

How would you describe one of your live shows?

Definitely as a rollercoaster ride of emotions haha! They’re entertaining and infectious – bringing together humour, high quality musicianship, storytelling, and some killer hook lines that get the crowd singing and dancing every time! We aren’t just a band to listen to, but one to experience.

You guys have been headlining a few charity gigs lately, what are they for?

Mental Health promotion is something that I’m very passionate about and want to do a lot more of. Our song FIFO is about the depression and Mental Health issues surrounding fly-in-fly-out workers, but it’s evolved and come a long way since then and is something we all want to continue with. We played two free shows for Queensland Mental Health Week in Cairns this year.

What’s next for Drewboy and the Sax Addicts?

We’re about to kick off our Positive Vibes Tour, spreading the good tunes all the way down the Queensland Coast. We’ll start with Magnums in Airlie Beach on November 23, then play in Mooloolaba, Surfers Paradise, Toowoomba, Dalby, and finish up at the Commercial Hotel in Tara on December 3. The Surfers Paradise gig will be a special one – it’s a charity event at Taps to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention and positive mental health. We hope to see you all there!

Drewboy and the Sax Addicts’ Positive Vibes Tour kicks off in Airlie Beach on Wednesday, 23 November at Magnums. Before then though, you can catch them rocking out at The Jack in Cairns with us next Saturday, 19 November (and on iTunes)! Tickets available online or at the door.
